Countries

Countries we cover, and how they get here

Universal calculators work in every country today. Country take-home pay calculators are published one at a time, only after their rules pass official test cases and an independent cross-check.

5 of 5 launch countries are live; compare them on the take-home pay hub. In the meantime, every universal calculator works in your currency, and the income tax bracket calculator lets you enter any country’s allowance and bands yourself.

Planned next

After the first five, we plan to add two or three countries a month, in roughly this order, guided by what visitors ask for: Ireland, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Singapore, Netherlands, Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Pakistan, Kenya, Malaysia. Countries without a personal income tax on employment won’t get a take-home calculator, because it would have nothing useful to show; they may get other local tools instead.

What a country must pass first

  1. Sources. Every rate, band, threshold, ceiling and allowance is taken from the tax authority’s own publications or legislation and recorded with its address and the date it was read.
  2. Rules for two years. The current and previous tax years are written up, along with a list of what the calculator doesn’t model.
  3. Test cases. At least 30 per tax year, including at least five official worked examples or results captured from the authority’s own calculator.
  4. Independent cross-check. A second implementation, written from the official sources without reading ours, must agree on at least 2,000 random cases.
  5. Review and content. A second person checks every value against its source, and the country page explains the rules in at least 900 words with worked examples and a list of what isn’t covered.

The details are on the methodology page.
